Trijntje was born in October 1779 in Oost-Knollendam (NL) and her baptism took place there in October 1779.1   Trijntje's father was Jacob Aldertsz. Groot and her mother was Grietje Jacobs Smit.  Her paternal grandparents were Aldert Jacobse Groot and Trijntje Jacobs (Laan); her maternal grandparents were Jacob Dirks Smit and Aafje Jacobs.  She had two sisters named Grietje and Trijntje Jacobs.  She was the oldest of the three children.  She had six half-brothers and two half-sisters, named Auke, Aldert, Harmen, Aldert, Jacob, Cornelis, Sijtje and Zijtje.  She died before 1784.
