Herbert Friedrich Wilhelm, known as Herbert, was born on January 12th, 1888 in Breslau (DE) sinds 1945 Wroclaw (PL).1  Herbert's father was Louis Oscar August (Louis) Winkler and his mother was Hermine Mathilde Anna (Mathilde) Syring.  His paternal grandparents were August Winkler and Friederieke Seide; his maternal grandparents were Gustav Alexander (Alexander) Syring and Dorothea Weinhold.  He had five brothers and eight sisters, named Hans, Friedrich, Georg, Wilhelm Friedrich Ludwig, Walther, Margarete, Mathilde, Else, Frieda, Dorothea Ida Katharina, Katherine, Alice / Licel and Mathilde / Tilla.  He was the eleventh oldest of the fourteen children.
