Aaltje was born on July 9th, 1760 in Schellingwoude (NL) and her baptism took place there on July 12th, 1760.1   Aaltje's father was Frans Greuning and her mother was Mietje Steening.  She had three brothers and six sisters, named Jan, Hendrik, Hendrik, Antje, Hendrikje, Maretje, Gerritje, Gerritje and Antje.  She was the oldest of the ten children.
